It’s one of the best movies I have ever seen. It’s like a wave that lifts you up and comes crashing down just as beautifully and dramatically.
Rang De Basanti starts as the story of a young British woman to travels to India to make a documentary about Indian freedom fighters. With the help of her friend Sonia, she finds five young men to play the parts. The story follows their lives, filled with fun and jokes and friendship. They gradually begin to relate to the roles they had each assumed and see that the situation that plagued the revolutionaries is still at play.
The movie shows their fight against the corruption and their path to avenge their friend’s dishonoured death.
While the story sounds very serious, the movie has been made in a beautiful manner. It’s joyful and fun and humorous and gets serious and emotional towards the end without losing the youthfulness of the characters. It captures you right from the start. It makes you think and analyze the state of our country and our freedom. It makes you feel what the characters are feeling.
There is not a single dull moment in the entire movie. It’s a roller-coaster of laughter, tears, and heartbreak.
It’s one of the best movies I have ever seen. It’s like a wave that lifts you up and comes crashing down just as beautifully and dramatically. It leaves you feeling soulful and aware.
It’s a movie that everyone must certainly watch. It’s a movie that everyone has loved. It’s a movie that most people have on their favourites list.
Inspiring. Brilliant.
The tale of India's youth who leave the idiosyncrasies of youth to embark on a sombre journey of redeeming the state of the country. They derive inspiration from India's freedom struggle and almost directly draw from them at times,to do away with the corrupt ministry and prejudiced views of people. They become so deeply involved in their altruistic acts that they disregard family, relationships and vibrancy of living,in order to set things right for their country.
Terribly inspiring, and heartwarming this tale of revolution has become a cult film owing to its screenplay, dialogue and visuals. With music from A.R. Rahman which is totally in sync with the feel and theme of the movie,Rand De Basanti colors our minds and hearts with vivid colors of rejuvenated patriotism. The performance from Amir Khan,Madhavan,Siddharth, Soha,Kunal and Sharman are unforgettable.
An exciting message and a story.
Rang De Basanti directed by Rakesh Mehra is a combination of two plots of which the first is about a group of friends enjoying and partying through their young age and the other is about the three martyrs of freedom struggle during pre-Independence era.
The director manages to draw a parallel line between the British India and the corrupt Indian Government. The movie portrays the story of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru who were hanged in 1931 and a British constable standing in front of them leaves a book for his grand daughter telling her the truth and bravery of those fighters. Aamir Khan and co plays lead roles in the movie as group of friends as well as the freedom fighters.
This story tells you about how a group of friends from their meaningless and careless lives are influenced by the sacrifices of the past fighters turn their lives to patriotism and meaningful existence. They are hurt by the death of one of their friends ( R Madhavan) in an accident caused due to corruption. The sequence of events that follow take an idealistic route which makes the climax altogether interesting.
The movie moves at a slow pace after introducing all the characters early in the movie. It somehow dilutes the message and intensity with which it takes a high after the accident of their friend. All the characters do fair justice to their roles and the direction though lacks some crunching touch, it does keep one eager to know about the climax.
The music is again a high point and the dialogues are exciting with a Punjabi touch to it. Rang de Basanti after all the boon and curses is an entertainer though not a very delightful movie!
I have not seen any more patriotic and #inspiring movie than this. Its truly #thoughtProvoking how a group of students studying at Delhi University who are super careless turn out to be such great patriots in the end. Moreover the great acting skills of Aamir Khan , Siddharth Naraya, Atul Kulkarni, Kunal Kapoor , Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan would send chills down your spine. Though this film starts out all #LOLFunny but it takes a very dark turn and then with misfotunate turn of events the film turns to be all #emotional and #depressing in the end. So save your handkerchiefs for the end because you would definitely need them.
Must watch
A truly patriotic movie with all its charm. It ha politics, drama and love. It gives you goosebumps and feels like never before. A movie which would inspire all young minds. It shows a contrast between old-school freedom fighter and the new age of protesters. The cinematography is one of its kind, the way old cinema is pictured along with new, is something you would enjoy the most. One of the finest actors and also the best storyline for a patriotic movie. A spine chiller and at the end of it you would truly be inspired and patriotism will soar high for the whole day, for sure.

I admire it, but I didn't love it.

I thought the acting was all great, and I really did love Aamir in this one, but I can't see myself wanting to watch it over and over again.

Spoilers ahead --

It's hard for me to see that they chose killing the minister rather than -- I don't know what exactly they could have done to get press coverage, but something. Maybe just commandeering the radio studio without killing people?

It's just hard for me to get past that, I guess. I don't have the experience of people in India with that feeling of helplessness at the rampant corruption, so maybe I am just naive. But I have personal experience getting press coverage for something, so it's harder for me to get past their fallback to violence after the police break up the candle vigil. I know what I would have done -- held press conferences at the hospital talking about the mother in the coma -- I mean, come ON that is made for TV coverage. And the British white girl who is so fired up never suggests something like that? Now she is all passive and silent?

I liked the sepia flashbacks, and the older patriots welcoming the young ones to heaven or what have you. I particularly liked Sharman Joshi in this. What happened to him? He did this and 3 Idiots and then"?
It is a film where you can find patriotism in new way. Eye opener for who think that nowadays youth don't know about country and stuff. But they can give their life for the country.
The story is about a British documentary filmmaker who is determined to make a film on Indian freedom fighters based on diary entries by her grandfather, a former officer of the British Indian Army. Upon arriving in India, she asks a group of five young men to act in her film. Watch the movie for the rest of the story.
great movie with lots of patriotism!!! 5 youth in college made a change when a friends life was taken by the governments hands. they fight for whats right, and this is a must-see movie to get people to rise for their country and speak the truth! dont let the government control you, fight for whats right, because the government isnt always. great songs, like paathshala and rang de basanti...lots of life, great performance, and a lot of meaning behind it! definitely must see!
Simply Brilliant
The movie is one of the greatest classics produced by Mr. Perfectionist Aamir khan. The movie begins with a young struggling Sue,played by Alice pattern who want to make documentry based on her grandfather's diarywhich contained information about how the people like Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, Ashfaqulla Khan, and Ram Prasad Bismil changed his perception about Indians. Thus,in order to complete the documentary he comes to India. Here she meets a bunch of college guys who are played by Aamir,Kunal Kapoor,Siddharth Malhotra,Atul Kulkarni(Who is a political activist) and Sharman Joshi along with Soha Ali Khan. Soha Ali was the fiance of R. Madhavan who is a Indian air force officer. Later in the film he loses his life because of MIG-21 crash. And the Govt. declares that the accident took place because of irresponsibility of Pilot. The cool gang of friends gets agitated as the defence minister is not taking his responsibility and blamed Madhavan. So, they kill the minister. In the parallel direction the shooting of documentary keeps going which makes these people to rebel against the system. After killing the minister they go to a nearby All India Radio Station and hijack to tell people what they have done and why. The people begin to support them but the police pays no heed to it and attack the station and in the process kill them. The movie has been shot beautifully and the actors have played their role convincingly. It truly creates the feeling of patriotism in people. .
